Barachois Pond Provincial Park, at 3500 hectares, is the largest provincial park in Newfoundland and Labrador. Located in western Newfoundland on the Trans Canada Highway, Route 1, the park is 20 km from Stephenville. The park lies within the Western Newfoundland Forest Eco-region, which is characterized by a balsam fir forest with an understory of ferns and moss. The trail up Erin Mountain, a 2 ½ hour hike to the 340 metre summit, will give you a panoramic view of St. George's Bay. Route 1, Trans Canada Highway, 20 km west of Stephenville. The Barachois Pond Provincial Park campsites are open seasonally.
