Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area covers 443 square kilometers of protected area, offering a few first-come, first-served campsites, a large backcountry trail network, and Pinehurst Lake Campground which has had several upgrades over recent years and is now a reservable campsite location. Lakeland Provincial Recreation Area and Lakeland Provincial Park are both designated Dark Sky Preserves by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada since November 2016. Pinehurst Camper's Beach Day Use Area offers a large beach with life-jacket loaner station for visitors. Pinehurst's other day use area features picnic sites, a picnic shelter, and a boat launch with a large parking area for trucks and trailers.
