Located in a transition zone between parkland and boreal forest, the park protects marshes, mixed wood forests, beautiful sand beaches and lakeshore landscapes that support a diverse community of birds and other wildlife. Despite its name, the lake’s depth actually creates a thermal basin that prevents ice forming until well into December. As a result, the birding season here is extended significantly. Not only is this a great place to see waterfowl and shorebirds, hundreds of songbirds and other forest species live in the varied and rich habitats in the park.
