what to expect

The French River is a favourite of beginner and experienced backcountry canoeists alike. Its rugged landscape, windswept pines, easy to reach road access options, and choice of routes make it a popular trip. Paddle the route of Indigenous peoples, Samuel de Champlain, and 18th century fur traders.

The park offers 286 backcountry campsites accessible only by boat, canoe or kayak. There are no car campsites in the park.

Designated campsites and portages are clearly signed and can be found on the official park map which is available for purchase at the French River Visitor Centre. Some campsites are not outfitted with a privy due to the local geology and topography.
